The relationship between the height of the epidemic peak (i.e. maximum simultaneous number of symptomatic [I2] individuals) and strength of the Awareness Effect (unitless; the extent to which individuals become more concerned for each symptomatic network neighbour they have; see Supplementary Material) when Social Construction is strong (> 0.3). An individual learns of symptomatic contacts from a) their communication layer, b) their infection layer (learning from 100% of contacts) and c) both layers together. The colour of points indicates the strength of the Reassurance Effect: yellow indicating a strong Reassurance Effect through to purple indicating a weak Reassurance Effect
