  1. a Happiness and life-satisfaction are single item questions, which are widely used both in English and Chinese literature. Short form of the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) was adapted in this study, which has been validated for studies of Chinese adults [50,51,52]
  2. b”Urbanness” includes urban areas and towns. The urban area refers to the neighborhood committees and other areas that are connected to the actual construction of the municipal districts and cities without districts. The town district refers to the residents’ committee and other areas connected to the actual construction of the county government and other towns outside the urban area. “ruralness” refers to the area outside the towns delineated by “urbanness” regulations
