  1. MHI mental health 5-inventory, SD standard deviation, HHI Herfindahl-Hirschman Index. a The MHI is assessed by the 5-item mental health inventory (MHI-5), range from 0 to 100 (a higher score indicating better mental health) b The HHI is defined as homogeneity of the neighborhood age structure (score from 0 to 100, where a higher score indicates more homogeneity in neighborhood age structure). The percentages of specific age groups in a neighborhood can be interpreted as the mean percentage of all 215 neighborhoods. The neighborhood income level was defined as the average disposable personal income (*1000 Euro). The neighborhood income level can be interpreted as the mean neighborhood income level from all 215 neighborhoods. Individual perceptions of social neighborhood factors (‘social cohesion’ and ‘feeling at home’) were not included in this table because they were standardized factor scores (mean of 0, standard deviation of 1). The mean and standard deviations for the individual items that were used to construct the factor scores can be found in Supplementary File 1, Table S1
