  1. Data are shown as mean (SD) or frequency (%)
  2. BMI body mass index, WC waist circumference, FPG fasting plasma glucose, 2-h PG 2-h post load glucose test, TC total cholesterol, SBP systolic blood pressure, DBP diastolic blood pressure, FH-CVD family history of premature cardiovascular disease
  3. Central obesity defined as waist circumference ≥ 95 cm; Hypercholesterolemia was defined as serum TC ≥6.21 mmol/L or using lipid lowering drugs; Hypertension was defined as SBP ≥140 mmHg or DBP ≥90 mmHg or under drug treatment; Diabetes was defined as FPG ≥7 mmol/L or 2-h PG ≥11.1 mmol/L or taking anti-diabetic medication; Low physical activity was defined as participating in vigorous physical activity less than three days per week. Those participants who entered in the second phase, were considered low physically active when achieving less than 600 MET (metabolic equivalent task)-minutes per week; FH-CVD was defined as diagnosis of CVD in male or female first-degree blood relatives, aged < 55 years or aged < 65 years old, respectively
