Flow chart of study participants. School leavers (~16 years of age) in a middle-sized town in Northern Sweden were invited in 1981. Follow-up surveys were conducted in 1995 and 2007. Participants were defined as active in the labor market 1995 if they were unemployed or employed. Requirements for being defined as unemployed and employed 1995 and not unemployed during follow-up are given in detail in the methods section
