Among AMI patients, 99% of those living in major cities, 54% of inner regional patients and 20% of more remote patients were admitted to a metropolitan hospital for the index admission, with corresponding figures for angina patients being 99%, 75% and 41%. All coronary procedures were performed in metropolitan hospitals, with most performed in public hospitals--86% of those in AMI patients and 56% of those in angina patients. Over 90% of AMI patients first admitted to a public hospital also had their procedure in a public hospital, while of those first admitted to a private hospital, 33% had their angiography, 27% their PTCA and 49% their CABG in a public hospital.
