The case definitions of the national surveillance system for point-prevalence of healthcare-associated infections in hospitals and long-term care facilities for elderly in Norway are simplified and modified versions of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions [31], except for skin infections where the definition of McGeer et al. is used [25].
