  1. aHypertensives who reported having ever been informed by a health professional of a diagnosis of hypertension were considered to be aware of their condition.
  2. bHypertensives who reported taking recognized antihypertensive medication were considered to be on treatment.
  3. cHypertensives on medication whose blood pressure measured during the study was less than140/90 mm Hg were considered to have controlled blood pressure controlled.
